Some of the celebrity and street style fashion and clothing lines that are now just beginning to take hold, and this include such things as bamboo clothing in women and men’s fashions, as well as Asian streetwear and urban clothing. Granted, urban clothing styles have been popular for the past couple of years with young men and older teenagers being the main target market for those designs.

The style continues to thrive amidst the speculation that urban retailers are struggling to keep up with trends and styles throughout the fashion world.

An example of this is Talbots, who is closing many of their women and men’s fashion clothing stores, and Gap is following suit even though they have recently introduced their Forth and Towne street style clothing that was primarily targeted toward mature women’s styles.

Let’s not forget about the everyday streetwear that can be seen on celebrities as well. For example, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were donning Von Dutch hats that popularized that trend. Even though the hat trend has cooled in recent months, popular celebrity endorsements are all too important for many designers.

Consider Smet and even Crystal Rock, both of which are two brands one for teenage guys and one for teenage girls respectively of very popular celebrity streetwear that can be seen on many influential celebrities throughout Hollywood including Britney Spears, Shane Sparks, Madonna, and even Sylvester Stallone.

Whether you’re looking to buy some of the very best in street style fashions or you’re just trying to keep up with the latest crazes in clothing lines, there are all sorts of ways to get suggestions of what’s popular. But in 2008, some of the latest and popular fashions in streetwear and accessories include full-length skirts and dresses for women’s fashions, edgy floral patterns in clothing, and even sheer and lingerie-inspired tops.

So what was the style of the 50s? What can we possibly expect if this trend continues? In the 50s, there were a handful of looks. In the 50s one saw full skirts, which required a petticoat or several petticoats to give a dress the right fullness. Petticoats were stiffened through the use of starch or sugar solutions. Later, the hoop crinoline petticoat was designed with channeled tapes, which gave dresses a natural fullness.

One designer who produced full skirts was Chanel. Chanel is also known for her 1954 boxy classic  suit jacket and slim skirts.

Chanel used textured wool and created the silhouette look. Her suits were often lined with silk as the wool was scratchy. The dresses were also weighted along the facing.

Accessories worn with this look included strings of pearls. There was also the collarless coat and jacket she made popular, which later came back in the 80s and 90s.

Chanel wasn’t the only trendsetter of the 50s, there was also Christian Dior. Dior showed his H,A, and Y lines. The H line included the slender tunic suit with a slim skirt.

Then came the sack look, a dress that tended toward a straighter waist. The trend caught on more in 1957. Many designers took the idea of the sack dress and modified it. The sack dress evolved into the trapeze dress, which was a swinging dress almost triangular in shape. It was worn with low shoes and of course the large bouffant hairstyle. It later became the short baby doll tent look of the 60s.

Other looks of the 50s included the double breasted straight fitted shirt dress. These dresses were often made of wool and came with a large white organdie collar and cuffs with a bound edge that could be detached and washed, then sewn back. The cuffs on these dresses were called French cuffs.

What else did one see in the 50s? Knit wear, leather jackets, vintage denim, scarves, fashionable bags, stockings, costume jewelry and accessories. As for color and print, the 50s was known for their florals and checks. Today, it appears both are making a comeback. Florals are showing up in autumn colors along with pastels and bright shades. Checks, as in Gingham, are being seen on blouses and skirts.

So with all of these looks coming out of the 50s will hair and make-up trends from the 50s follow?  Designers say yes, but with a contemporary twist. Stylists are seeing the bright red lips and liquid eyeliner used to make creative shapes such as fishtail flicks on women. As for the hair, one is seeing the classic bun with a twist. The bun can have a fishtail plait. Some are adding ribbon headbands and silk scarfs for a more authentic 50s look. Leather ribbons are also becoming trendier.

As with style of any era, one can take the old, mix it with the new and make it their own. Fashion is about having fun and making a statement about how you are feeling –so why not dress to a simpler time such as the 50s?

Spotting and setting fashion street style trends can be achieved by paying attention to what is happening in the streets and knowing the industry as a whole. Last year’s trend was towards chunky knits for the winter. Thick textures in different colors were popular. Along with knitted scarves, knitted jumper-type sweaters were all the rage. The laddered stocking was one of the more popular pieces for women in 2010. This look first appeared in 2008 and has grown in popularity.

The way to wear the laddered stocking is with a short skirt. Speaking of the short skirt, this is fast becoming a fashion street style trend that can be paired with anything that will look good with it, and then the super tight jeans with a few shreds hanging out here and there will also be another hot trend. Time to get on that diet! Transparent clothing will be coming back as seen on Katie Holmes.

The one-shouldered dress will be a hit this year for spring/summer. If you love wearing denim skirts then you will be happy to learn it is making a comeback this year, and the one piece numbers as well. As far as men’s fashion street style trends, denim is huge. The athletic jersey and sneakers are making a run on the fashion front. RocaWear is huge again this year and stripes in dress shirts are the way to go. The classic black leather jacket will rule the fashion street style clothing scene which really never goes out of style.

The comfortable athletic track suit is making a comeback for sporty casual wear, and tank tops are going to be eye-catching. For the colder winter months, there will be thermal clothing in different colors. Then in the spring, transfer t-shirts will be big, especially the ones that have funny lines on the front.

Along with all the above, you will see vintage hip hop clothing making a comeback and ruling the urban hip hop fashion scene. There are the wholesale designers that have tried to incorporate affordable pieces into the mix. This would include the tight jeans along with leather skirts and miniskirts. Embroidered clothing will also be big this year in the form of shorts, jeans, skirts, jackets and more. This is the way the current fashion street style trends are going to try to get the styles that you like and that will suit you.
